Renowned for its classic art deco architecture, the heritage listed theatre is the jewel of the Darling Downs. It is wholly owned by Toowoomba Regional Council and managed on it’s behalf by Empire Theatres Pty Ltd.

The Empire Theatre has served as an entertainment hub for Toowoomba and the surrounding areas for over 100 years, playing an integral part in the cultural development of the region. Today the Empire Theatres precinct includes the Empire Theatre Studio, the Empire Church Theatre which hosts a variety of performances including cabaret, comedy and fine music and the Armitage Centre.

Fabrik

Fabrik is an emerging arts and heritage hub in the beautiful Adelaide Hills town of Lobethal. Based in the former Onkaparinga blanket factory, our buildings are full of stories and great light.

At this point in our development we are inhabiting our own ‘space between’ – after supporting our local community after the devastating 2019 bushfire by offering a creative recovery program, we are now making plans for a major redevelopment starting in early 2022. Our state heritage listed buildings will be upgraded to include contemporary art galleries, artist studios, workshops and artist in residence programs. We will honour the significant history of the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill with interpretation throughout the site, and will build on this heritage by offering a textile focus for Fabrik’s ongoing programming.

For now, during this space between, we are offering community-focused creative gatherings, monthly masterclasses and the occasional amazing event. We look forward to welcoming you to Fabrik.
